And this blueprint love, whom God loved before the world was made, this Dream Woman before women were, is the one of whom every heart can say in its depth of depths: “She is the woman I love!”

Today the Catholic Church celebrates the Immaculate Conception.  To avoid confusion, this is not Jesus being conceived in Mary’s womb but it is our Blessed Mother being conceived without the stain of Original Sin in St. Anne’s womb.

Where does one start one this topic?  Where does one end?  We will start with Today’s Readings, then a few other quotes from Luke and end with the thoughts of the Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen – in my mind the foremost authority on our Blessed Mother Mary.

First – our readings for the day.  The Church uses our first reading to tell the story of the fall of man, the story where Adam and Eve ate from the tree that had been forbidden to eat from.  It was then that God warned Satan, the serpent,:

Then the LORD God said to the serpent:
“Because you have done this, you shall be banned
from all the animals
and from all the wild creatures;
on your belly shall you crawl,
and dirt shall you eat
all the days of your life.
I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will strike at your head,
while you strike at his heel.”

Our responsorial psalm sings of the marvelous deeds of God…

All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation by our God.
Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands;
break into song; sing praise.

And in our Gospel, the beautiful prayer of Mary in response to God’s call…

Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.”

And the beginning of our eternal prayer to the Blessed Mother as spoken by the Angel Gabriel…

“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”

And further on in Luke, when Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth…

41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit,42 cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.t

And finally, the thoughts of Fulton Sheen on the Immaculate Conception.

Do something great for our Lord today – honor his Blessed Mother, our Blessed Mother.  Go to Mass; say a Rosary.

God’s will, not mine, be done.

Be not afraid; just have faith.

Jesus, I trust in You.
