Encourage yourselves daily while it is still “today,” so that none of you may grow hardened by the deceit of sin.

It’s kind of funny how you randomly hear little snippets of wisdom at any point in time and you’re not sure what they really mean at the time you hear it but then it hits you like a ton of feathers the next day.  I was driving to my daughters basketball game after work last night and had on the local EWTN affiliate on the radio (which is a rare occasion for me – I usually stream it on my phone – no static across the speakers).  Dr. “Ray” came on the radio with a little snippet about “venting”.  The premise was is okay to vent or should we refrain from it.  His advice was this…since venting is usually done in a fit of rage, it is probably best to avoid venting at all costs because once you spewed your words in a fit of anger, there is really no taking them back.  Thank you Dr. Ray for that piece of advice.  Fast forward 3 hours and now I’m picking my wife up from here school board meeting and on the way home from that she casually asks “Has Richard talked to you recently?”.  I looked inside my wallet and saw that I still had cash in it, so I said “Nope.”  Long story short, Richard received a surprise email regarding a student loan which wasn’t on any of our radars and we are all upset about having to worry about one more loan that needs repayment.  I went to bed mad, I woke up mad and I was about to vent about our government, our collegiate education system, and just about everything I can think of…until I recalled Dr. Ray’s advise…take your frustration, take your anger to pray.  Take a deep breath.  Ask God for His guidance and He will see you through to another day.  I need to take a lesson from today’s responsorial psalm (95)…

If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts.

Come, let us bow down in worship;
let us kneel before the LORD who made us.
For he is our God,
and we are the people he shepherds, the flock he guides.

If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts.

Oh, that today you would hear his voice:
“Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,
as in the day of Massah in the desert,
Where your fathers tempted me;
they tested me though they had seen my works.”

If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts.

Forty years I was wearied of that generation;
I said: “This people’s heart goes astray,
they do not know my ways.”
Therefore I swore in my anger:
“They shall never enter my rest.”

If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts.

So, today I will listen for His voice, I will trust in the God who created me because only in Him will I find peace; only in Him will I be able to help Richard find a solution to this next financial challenge.  Only in Him…

Do something great for our Lord today – don’t VENT – take your troubles to God and let Him guide you through your troubles.

God’s will, not mine, be done.

Be not afraid; just have faith.

Jesus, I trust in You.

He must increase; I must decrease.
