Then God said:

Let us make* human beings in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the tame animals, all the wild animals, and all the creatures that crawl on the earth.

27 God created mankind in his image;

in the image of God he created them;

male and female* he created them.

* [1:27Male and female: as God provided the plants with seeds (vv. 1112) and commanded the animals to be fertile and multiply (v. 22), so God gives sexuality to human beings as their means to continue in existence.

So why in the 4th week of Lent am I going back to the first Chapter of Genesis?  Sarah and I went to the movies last night and saw Unplanned.  I got up this morning and read on Wikipedia about the author of the book Unplanned –  Abbie Johnson.  After reading through the article, I noticed a second tab at the top of the page where open discussions are allowed between readers of the article and it was there where I met reality again.  For a brief moment last night I thought that this might be THE LINK to convert those in support of abortion away from that practice.  In reading the comments on Wikipedia, the stark reality of people and their opposition to this law was not going to end by watching this movie.

Unplanned was almost as hard to watch as The Passion of Christ.  There are parts of this movie I found particularly disturbing not because of the graphic nature of the film but because of the truth of what actually happens in an abortion.  I left the movie just as numb as I did when I witnessed the shear brutality of my Savior being scourged and crucified.  I had the exact same feeling watching that movie last night.  I recommend seeing both movies but I will warn you, they are very, very hard movies to watch.

I know the hope of the people who produced this movie is to convert people away from the practice of abortions.  I also know this is a topic that divides.  I will say this about the movie.  It does a beautiful job of portraying how family members can still LOVE one another in spite of the fact that they oppose each other on this very subject.  God is about love, mercy and forgiveness – we are called to be like God and must be the same towards our fellow man.  I too have a deep love for some who support the practice of abortion. But regardless of this, I will NEVER stop my daily prayers for an end to this practice.

Do something great for our Lord today – show compassion, love, mercy and forgiveness.  We are all God’s children; we are all sinners; we are all in need of compassion, love, mercy and forgiveness.

God’s will, not mine, be done.

Be not afraid; just have faith.

Jesus, I trust in You.

He must increase; I must decrease.
