Brothers and sisters: If God is for us, who can be against us?

I need to pray for a new thought process or check my “man-card” at the door.  The opening line of Today’s Readings brought me to a the famous quote from Jerry Maquire – “You had me with hello!”.  Sorry about that, but everything after Brothers and sisters: If God is for us, who can be against us?  was simply icing on the cake this morning.  Think about that for a second – if God is for us – who can be against?  The reading goes on to say that because God wasn’t willing to spare His only son to save me, I have nothing to fear.  God conquered sin, God conquered death! (I need to see what He can do in the way of taxes!)  I don’t have to fear sin or death because as long as I chose God, He will protect me from them.  Will I never sin again?  As much as I would like to say I won’t, I know I will.  But Jesus gave us a sacrament that through His Apostles (and all their successors) we can be forgiven of our sins and brought back into union with God.  Will I not die?  Yes, I will.  But again, because Jesus died and opened the gates of heaven for all of us, I will rise again and be brought into communion with the Angels and the Saints in the heavenly kingdom.  How can I be sure of that?  Because I chose Christ, I chose God, I chose to serve and to be obedient to all that is right with Christ Jesus.  In doing that, God has promised me that gift of eternal life.  Amen to that brothers and sisters.

Do something great for our Lord today – find the inside of a confessional and become one with God again.  Find that peace through the confession of your sins.

God’s will, not mine, be done.

Be not afraid; just have faith.

Jesus, I trust in You.

He must increase; I must decrease.

But you, man of God, pursue righteousness,
devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.
Compete well for the faith.
