Give to the LORD, you families of nations, give to the LORD glory and praise; give to the LORD the glory due his name!

When I started this blog almost 3 years ago, the purpose was to invite men of the parish at St. Mary Magdalen to this website and offer them daily reflections on the scriptures for the day and how I tie those scriptures into my everyday life.  It was meant to be an online prayer/support group for the men of the parish.  Those were my thoughts on this blog and my intentions.  I believe the Holy Spirit may have a different purpose for this blog because it has branched out far beyond the parish walls of St. Mary Magdalen in Brentwood MO; because He is the inspiration behind all of my thoughts that I type daily, I’ll let Him take this blog wherever it needs to go.  I used to spend time looking at how many people read my posts each day but I don’t pay attention to that any more.  I don’t know how many people are following and I don’t know that it is important for me to know that.  What is important to me is that I keep following this small calling and pray that each day this post offers some inspiration to whoever reads it.  That was a long intro to what I was going to post this morning about our first reading.  As I read this today, I immediately thought this is the definition of what I’m hoping to accomplish.  It is my prayer that we “men of St. Mary Magdalen” base all that we do for the honor and glory of God.  Ours is not the glory we seek but God’s; we are not of this world although we live in it and we must avoid all temptations that take us away from our mission – to be holy men of God and as holy men of God, lead our families to that eternal paradise.

1 JN 2:12-17

I am writing to you, children,
because your sins have been forgiven for his name’s sake.

I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.

I am writing to you, young men,
because you have conquered the Evil One.

I write to you, children,
because you know the Father.

I write to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young men,
because you are strong and the word of God remains in you,
and you have conquered the Evil One.

Do not love the world or the things of the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world,
sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a pretentious life,
is not from the Father but is from the world.
Yet the world and its enticement are passing away.
But whoever does the will of God remains forever.

Do something great for our Lord today – commit to His holy will; commit to His way of Truth and Light.
God’s will, not mine, be done.
Be not afraid; just have faith.
Jesus, I trust in You.
He must increase; I must decrease.
But you man of God chose righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience and gentleness.  Compete well for the faith.

  1. Jerry, It is hard to believe it has been 3 years already since you started this post. I appreciate your efforts. I start off each day with reading your blog, and it is a great way to start my day.
