Hear this! A sower went out to sow.

Are you picking up what Jesus is saying here?  Are you focusing on the being “the seed” this morning?  That’s what I’ve always focused on when I read the Gospel from Today’s Readings…am I the seed that falls on the path?  Amongst the weeds and thorns?  Or am I the seed that fell on rich soil?  Yeah, the rich soil guy.  I’ve always thought that was the point of this Gospel.  I was ready to type about all the people I know in my life and cast judgments over what seed that they are…then I read Bishop Barren’s reflection and he offered a different perspective to think about this morning.  I will offer his thoughts to you but in my own words.

Hear this! A sower went out to sow…those with ears ought to hear…a sower went out to sow.  He sowed His seed everywhere…on the path, on the rocks, in the weeds and thorns, in the rich soil.  It didn’t matter, He was spreading His seed everywhere.  Now consider that you are the sower.  Do you only plant your seed in the rich soil?  Do you only give your love to those you know will give it back in return?  Or do you offer your to love everyone – friend and foe, family and stranger, rich or poor?  Are you hearing what message is being sent this morning?

God doesn’t pick and choose who is worthy of His love; He offers it freely to everyone.  EVERYONE.  We, as imitators of Christ, should do likewise.  Drop a little seed, a little love anywhere and everywhere you go.  Drop some along the path, drop some love in the rocks, get into the weeds and drop some love, get pricked by the thorns but leave them some love.  Hear this – exclamation point!  A sower went out to sow – period.

Do something great for our Lord today – strap on that seed bag and go sow some seeds.

God’s will, not mine, be done.

Be not afraid; just have faith.

Jesus, I trust in You.

He must increase; I must decrease.

Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.

But you man of God chose righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience and gentleness.  Compete well for the faith.
